2012 Camp Directors
Daren Powell
Head Coach- Elon University
In Powell’s six seasons at the helm of the Elon squad, the program has produced 26 All-Southern Conference performers, a conference player of the year and two league freshman of the year. The 2010 season saw Elon finish with its fifth straight winning season. Powell guided Elon to its first Southern Conference title in the programs history in 2008 with a perfect 7-0 record. This led to the program’s third consecutive winning season at the NCAA Division I level. He was awarded Southern Conference Coach of the year for the second time in four years. Powell played professional for the Carolina Dynamo, Raleigh Flyers and the Wilmington Hammerheads in the USL 1 and USL 2 divisions. Powell is also heavily involved in youth soccer in North Carolina. He has served as a staff coach for Greensboro Youth Soccer for over 15 years and has been a North Carolina ODP head coach for the past eight years. Powell also works as a staff coach with the USYSA Region III ODP team and holds a USSF A-License.
Chris Little
Associate Coach
Chris Little is in his first year with the Phoenix. Little has served as the Director of Coaching for the Greensboro Youth Soccer Association since 2007. In 2005 Little headed up the Olympic Development Program and serve as the North Carolina State Director of Coaching and Player Development for the NC Youth Soccer Association. He guided the state’s ODP program to its first two national titles, leading the 1988 State Team to a shared national title at the 2006 ODP National Tournament and the 1989 State Team to a 2007 championship.
Jonathan Potter
Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach
Jonathan Potter comes to Elon after spending the summer as an assistant coach with the Carolina Dynamo of the Premier Development League (PDL). The Dynamo won the 2011 South Atlantic Division title and qualified for the U.S. Open Cup against professional clubs. Potter served as the director of men’s soccer operations at Southern Conference rival Davidson College last fall.
Potter also currently serves as the assistant director of the Burlington Soccer Club. His other previous experiences include coaching in the Twin City Youth Soccer Association in Winston-Salem, N.C.
A 2010 graduate of Chowan University, Potter holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education with a concentration in sport management and a minor in business administration. A four-year starter for Chowan, Potter appeared in all but one match in his career. In 2009 he trained with a professional team in Argentina. Before that he played in the USL with the Northern Virginia Royals Super-20 team, helping the squad reach the 2008 North American finals.
Potter possesses a U.S. Soccer Federation “D” Coaching License.
